Woodland Park is the practical center of Teller County and the reason most people can live up here at all. The grocery stores, the hospital, the high school and my office are all inside the same few square miles. Housing runs from in-town lots on paved streets to five-acre parcels on the ridges above, and the difference in commute, snow load and price between those two is larger than newcomers expect. More on the area, including what it is like day to day, is on the Woodland Park community page. For reference, City of Woodland Park is the best primary source on the area itself.
Before you buy here: Ask about the driveway before you ask about the kitchen. Grade, aspect and who plows it decide what January feels like. In town you will usually be on city water and sewer, and further out you are on a well and a septic system that both need their own inspections.
Buying up here means wells, septic and winter access. The Buyer’s Guide covers all three, and Woodland Park School District RE-2 is where the permit records live.
